About Us

This independent company in Dorchester was set up in 1999 by Gill Bowden and David and Jean Sproston as they were keen to offer a more individual experience than they were able to whilst working for larger firms. Since their retirement, Lisa Gunning who joined Sproston & Bowden in 2016 as a qualified Dispensing Optician and contact lens practitioner continues to grow the business, keeping the high standard and principles that the business was originally built upon.

We have now installed the latest OCT which enables us to detect certain conditions much earlier than with our standard equipment. The OCT captures both a photograph and a cross sectional scan of the back your eye. The software can then automatically detect even the most subtle changes to your eye with every eye examination you have with us. Please ask us for more details.
